The Sanctuary of Torreciudad, located in the province of Huesca in northern Spain, is a modern pilgrimage destination set in the foothills of the Pyrenees, overlooking the El Grado reservoir. Inaugurated in 1975 and envisioned by St. Josemaría Escrivá, founder of Opus Dei, Architect Heliodoro Dols designed Torreciudad Sanctuary using distinctive brickwork that blends modern form with spiritual tradition in a welcoming setting for all.
The building stands out for its bold use of reddish-brown brick, blending harmoniously with the earthy tones of the surrounding landscape. Its clean, geometric forms, tall bell tower, and porticoed façades reflect modernist inspiration and traditional Aragonese design, creating a solemn and welcoming space.
Torreciudad invites people of all backgrounds, pilgrims, tourists, and peace seekers to experience its serene atmosphere, whether for prayer or reflection or to appreciate its striking architectural presence and panoramic setting.
